This is a debian/ubuntu package that makes using tor very easy.
Simply install the package via aptitude.
I have set up my own ubuntu repository to make all this easy on you. Follow the instructions there and then "sudo aptitude install polipo-tor".
Then set your browser to use localhost:8118 as a proxy. With firefox, you do this by installing torbutton, restarting the browser if needed, click on "Tor Disabled" to enable it, and you're done.
This entire process should take one or two minutes, and requires very little mental effort on your part. That's important to me; my thinkons are valuable.
This instance of polipo runs on port 8118, and so will conflict with privoxy.
Since polipo is installed as a prerequisite, it will also end up running.
Polipo is configured to listen to 127.0.0.1 by default, so you need not fear outside IPs directly connecting to it.
