Microsoft Windows Tips for Novices This is just a running log of things that novices need to know. Create multiple users, and only use Administrator for things that need it. For example, download software as an unprivileged user, and then install it as Administrator. Always use "Add/Remove Programs" to install software. You may have to unzip it to a temporary directory, and then switch to Administrator, then browse to the right place and show "All Files" to see the executable you need to run. Always "Add/Remove Programs" as Administrator. Do not use the "run as" feature (shift plus right-click on a program) to do this, as child processes seem to run with your privileges (instead of Administrator). This suggests that under MS-Windows, privileges are not automatically passed down to children. Much software (maybe 75%) will install a program group in Administrator's start menu. You should go to: C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Start Menu\Programs and find the program group there, cut it, then paste it to: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs
